Movie Review: HERE COMES THE BOOM

HERE COMES THE BOOM

“Surprisingly as hardcore as sympathetic can get”

Here Comes the Boom is a 2012 American sports comedy film directed by Frank Coraci, written by Allan Loeb and Kevin James, and starring Kevin James. A former collegiate wrestler, Scott Voss (Kevin James) is a 42-year old, bored and disillusioned high school biology teacher who looks to become a mixed-martial arts fighter in an effort to raise money to prevent extra-curricular activities from being axed at his cash-strapped school.

This is (in my opinion) Kevin James' finest performance to date! From the advertising one might expect a screwball slapstick comedy and admittedly that nearly turned me off to this one.

To the contrary "Boom" turned out to be quite the opposite, providing a very sympathetic story intermingled with decent writing and comedy. ACTUAL comedy, not that falling-on-the-floor BS that James was dangerously close to being notorious for.

I'd call this picture a breath of fresh air considering the recent movies we've seen Kevin James in and would recommend anyone into UFC or just looking for a decent comedy go see.
